Shizz Alston, Jr. Earns AAC and Big 5 Player of the Week Honors

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University senior guard Shizz Alston, Jr. was named Philadelphia Big 5 and American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending December 16.  It was Alston's second AAC Player of the Week honor and he shared the award with Houston's Galen Robinson. It was his first Big 5 honor.Â
Alston averaged 27.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals in leading the Owls to a 2-0 week. On Wednesday, the 6-4 guard scored a career-high 31 points and made a steal in the final seconds to secure a 65-63 win over UMass. He followed that up Saturday with 24 points and a career-high 11 assists to lead Temple to a 77-75 overtime win against Davidson in the Air Force Reserve Boardwalk Classic. Alston was named Player of the Game for his efforts in the win at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
Alston currently ranks second in the conference in scoring (18.8 ppg.), third in assists (5.6 apg.) and free throw percentage (.891) and fourth in three-pointers made (2.9 mpg.).
Temple (9-2), off to its best start since the 2012-13 season, closes out the 2018 portion of its schedule at The Palestra on Saturday against Drexel (1 pm./1210 AM WPHT). To purchase tickets to Saturday's game, click here.
