12.19.18 | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA - For its second season in the American Athletic Conference in 2019-20, Temple lacrosse will have a seven-member freshman class after the group all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Owls and head coach Bonnie Rosen.
The signees include Eryn Beal (Severna Park, Md./Chesapeake/Integrity), Charessa Crosse (Baltimore, Md./Friends School/M&D), Isabelle Mastropietro (Springfield, Pa./Springfield/Phantastix), Riley McGowan (Souderton, Pa./Souderton/Big4HHH), Mackenzie Roth (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland/T3 West), Julie Schickling (Springfield, Pa./Springfield/Phantastix) and Maeve Tobin (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield/Westchester Elite).
"We are so excited to announce our next class of Temple Lacrosse players and welcome them to Temple family," said Rosen. "This is a talented group of student-athletes who we feel possess the "x" factor qualities that lead to great team success. They are athletic, competitive, smart, likable, and driven young women who have a team-oriented mindset combined with a desire to achieve greatness."Â Â
Beal, a goalkeeper for Chesapeake Senior High School, has been named all-county in each of her three years on the team so far, getting first team honors as a freshman and sophomore. Last year, Beal recorded a 61 percent save percentage and was named to the Capital Gazette Second Team and the all-county second team. Beal, who plans to go pre-med at Temple, also lettered for three years in field hockey. Her sister, Logan, is currently a freshman field hockey player at American University.
Crosse is already a three-year varsity starter for the Friends School of Baltimore, and is a two-time all-conference selection as a sophomore and junior. Last season she earned the Friends School Athletic Award. She's a multi-sport athlete with four letters in basketball and one in volleyball. She was a varsity starter for volleyball in 2018 and helped lead her team to a runner-up finish in the conference. Crosse is a volunteer coach at Charm City Lacrosse and was influenced to attend Temple because of its diversity, location, academics and strong lacrosse program.
Mastropietro was a first team All-Delco and first team All-Central selection for nearby Springfield High School as a junior after helping lead her team to a 20-5 record and a runner-up finish in the district. Under coach Kathleen (Barrett) Geiger, a former Temple All-American, Mastropietro scored 44 goals while adding 29 assists and 101 draws as a junior, and scored nine goals on a state runner-up team the year prior. That season, Mastropietro was named both second team All-Delco and second team All-Central. She's a multi-sport athlete with four letters in soccer and basketball along with her four in lacrosse. She's an honor roll student and involved in both the Dance Marathon and the Community Service Club. Her father, Dave, played baseball at La Salle and spent time in the minor leagues.
McGowan is a 5-11 attacker out of Souderton High School and already a two-time all-league first team selection. She scored 60 goals and added 27 assists as a junior after recording 70 goals and 14 assists as a sophomore. McGowan was her team's offensive player of the year in 2018 and helped lead Souderton to the conference playoffs. Outside of lacrosse, McGowan was nationally ranked in Crossfit (16 and under), is a Special Olympics coach and is an honor roll student who plans to major in kinesiology or biology at Temple.
Roth was team captain and team MVP as a junior at Parkland High School in Allentown, helping lead the squad to a 19-6 record, a district title, and to its first-ever win in the state tournament. Her high school coach is Dawn Ullman Cipolla, a 1990 Temple grad. Parkland went 18-5 in Roth's sophomore year and 17-6 her freshman year, winning both conference and district titles in each. Roth has been a high honor roll student and Principal's List student all through high school.
Schickling helped lead her Springfield High School team to the state quarterfinals as a freshman and junior, and to a runner-up finish in the state as a sophomore. She is a three-year letterwinner so far and already a two-year varsity starter, while also earning three letters in soccer. Like Mastropietro, Schickling's high school coach is former Temple All-American Kathleen (Barrett) Geiger, which was a big reason for her decision to play for the Owls.
Tobin was an all-state second team and all-league second team selection for Ridgefield High School as a junior after scoring 36 goals and adding 19 assists, 15 draw controls, 23 loose balls and 15 forced turnovers. She'll serve as team captain in her upcoming senior season, her fourth on the varsity squad. Also in 2018, Tobin earned her team's Spirit of the Stick award. She has been a high honor roll student for two years.
