PHILADELPHIA -- Former Temple volleyball standout Alyssa Drachslin has joined the Temple Athletics staff as the Coordinator for Leadership and Professional Development, announced Senior Associate AD for Academics and Career Services Justin Miller.
Â
"We could not be any more excited to have Alyssa Drachslin back with Temple University," said Miller. "During her tenure as an Owl, she was committed to enhancing the student-athlete experience - not just on our campus, but nationwide with the NCAA National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Through her energy and vision, I am confident Alyssa will implement what we all expect will be an outstanding leadership academy for student-athletes, while assisting in their professional development and transition to life after sport." Â
Â
Drachslin is the Resnick Center's first ever Coordinator for Leadership and Professional Development. In this position, she will be responsible for creating innovative leadership trainings and programs, while expanding upon the career development initiative the center already has running.
Â
"I am very excited to return to Temple and have the opportunity to contribute to the student-athletes' overall experience here," noted Drachslin. "I hope to empower students to embrace life in sports while preparing them to excel in life after sport. I am grateful to join a department that is so integral in the support and development of our student-athletes."
Â
Drachslin comes back to Temple from Seattle, Wash. where she worked for Beyond Sports, an organization dedicated to creating international travel opportunities for student athletes. While on the Beyond Sports team, she helped create a new branch, Student-Athletes Abroad, that focuses on longer and more academic based programs.
Â
Drachslin was a member of the Owls' volleyball team for four years and served as team captain for two. In 2015, she was named to the Academic All-Area team after ranking 28th in Division I with 5.02 digs per set, compiling over 1,500 digs in her career. She finished her undergraduate degree with a 3.90 GPA, earning her the Trustee Ten Award three different times for having a top ten GPA in Temple's athletic department. She was named Female Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2016, and was nominated to be Woman of the Year in 2015.
Â
Drachslin has spent a great deal of time representing student athletes, as she was named the American Athletic Conference Representative on the NCAA Division I National Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She also served as the president of Temple's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Â
Drachslin graduated from Temple in 2015 with a B.A. in Political Science, then finished out her career at Temple in 2016 completing a M.S. in Globalization and Development Communication.
