PHILADELPHIA – Temple head coach Geoff Collins announced today the promotion of Reggie Garrett and Ronell Williams.

Both Garrett and Williams served as graduate assistants for the defense in 2017. One month ago, Garrett was promoted to a full-time position as defensive analyst. He will now take over as director of player personnel for Larry Knight, who also was recently promoted to a full-time coaching position. Williams was hired into the defensive analyst role vacated by Garrett.

"I said repeatedly that we always look to develop and promote young assistants whenever the opportunity warrants," said Collins. "Both Reggie and Ronell have done a tremendous job for us. They know our culture and relate very well to our student-athletes. They have a bright future in football and I'm excited that their future starts at Temple University."

Garrett arrived in Philadelphia after two seasons with Pace University as defensive backs coach. At Pace, he worked with the corners and safeties and also served as punt return coordinator. Prior to his time with the Setters, he spent the 2013 season with the University of Rhode Island assisting with the cornerbacks.

A 2012 graduate of Norfolk State University, Garrett was originally a walk-on to the football team but earned a scholarship along the way to being named a senior captain. The Chesapeake, Va., native, was part of the Spartans' 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship team and was vice president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Prior to his time at Temple, Williams spent the 2016 season at Widener College as an assistant coach, specifically in training and developing the team's linebacker core.

The former linebacker was a four-year letterman at Division II West Chester University, where he led the team in tackles for three straight seasons (2011-13). He became the first sophomore and third defensive player in school history to earn first-team All-America honors by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in 2012. Williams earned a bachelor's degree in exercise sciences with a concentration in pre-occupational therapy in 2014.
