Lacrosse Drops First BIG EAST Game at Marquette

3.31.18 | Women's Lacrosse

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Marquette jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, handing Temple lacrosse (7-4, 2-1) its first BIG EAST Conference loss by a score of 16-4. The Golden Eagles (7-4, 3-0) got four goals from Grace Gabriel while Julia Horning made 10 saves.

Keys to the Game
> While overall shots were fairly even (28 for Marquette, 26 for Temple), the Golden Eagles put 24 on target compared to Temple's 14.
> Marquette led 4-0 before the Owls' first goal, and ran it up to an 11-2 lead by halftime.
> The scoring pace slowed in the second half, but Temple was unable to make much of a dent in its deficit after scoring the opening goal of the period.
> Draw controls heavily favored Marquette, 15-7.
> The contest was played indoors in a temporary bubble, a very rare experience for Temple.

Individual Highlights
> The Owls got one goal each from senior Kira Gensler, sophomores Maddie Gebert and Meghan Hoffman and freshman Jen Rodzewich.
> Junior Amber Lambeth recorded the lone assist for Temple.
> Sophomore Kara Nakrasius tallied a game-best four caused turnovers and tied Lambeth for game-high honors in ground balls with five.

Game Summary
> Marquette made two runs of four goals each and another of three goals in the first half, with the Owls only twice breaking them up.
> Temple's Gebert struck first in the second half, but Marquette closed five with goals to the Owls' one to stay well in the lead.

Quotable
"This is a really hard loss. Marquette really came at us today and beat us handily. This is a game we need to learn from. This is a young team who needs to learn how to win all the types of games you see in a season. We'll look to take this and use it to make us better moving forward." - Temple head coach Bonnie Rosen
