Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season at Princeton Invite

PHILADELPHIA— Women's tennis opens its fall season on Friday, Sept. 14 at the Princeton Invitational. The event is held at the Cordish Family Pavilion and Lenz Tennis Center and will run from Friday, Sept. 14 to Sunday, Sept. 16.
The Owls
> Temple is led by head coach Steve Mauro, who is in his 11th year at the helm of the women's program.
> The Owls finished the 2018 spring season with a 10-8 overall record, going 2-1 in the American and 7-1 at home.
> The team returns three upperclassmen: juniors Cecilia Castelli and Kristina Titova and senior Alice Patch. The Owls will look to this trio and sophomore Oyku Boz for leadership as they welcome a strong five-player class of freshman and transfers.
> Titova begins her junior season after a notable sophomore campaign. She posted a 15-6 record in singles play.
> Castelli and Patch went 8-8 and 10-10 in singles respectively, while Patch notched a strong 10-5 record in doubles play.
> Boz closed out her first season as an Owl going 5-5 in singles and 8-9 in doubles.
> Temple looks forward to contributions from its incoming class, as they make up the majority of the team. Five of the nine student-athletes are fresh faces on the Owls' roster.
The Princeton Invitational
> The Princeton Invitational has been held each fall since 2014. The past competitions have attracted strong opponents from the east region.
2014: Boston College, Columbia, Duke, Penn, Princeton, South Carolina
2015: Penn, Princeton, Syracuse, Temple
2016: Cornell, Princeton, Temple
2017: Cornell, Penn, Princeton, Temple
2018: Penn, Princeton, Syracuse, Temple

> "We're really looking forward to this upcoming event," said head coach Steve Mauro. "We're going to playing against a lot of the top teams in the East region, so it's going to be important for us to play well. We're really excited about the new players that we have on our team: Ruoyu Chen, Oleksandra Doroshenko, Stefaniya Surikova, Yining Tian and Chunan Xiang. In addition to the new players and the returners, I believe that we have a really strong team and we're looking forward to the fall experience."
