Gymnastics Set to Compete Saturday at Little Boston Invitational

PHILADELPHIA— Temple women's gymnastics continues its 2019 slate at the Little Boston Invitational on Jan. 12 against Towson and No. 20 Penn State. The meet is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Mass.

The Owls
> Last time out, Temple opened up the 2019 season with a quad meet hosted by Alabama that also featured NIU and SEMO. The Owls placed third with a 191.925. Alabama took first (194.750), NIU was second (193.325) and SEMO finished fourth (187.800).
> The Owls are captained by senior India Anderson, junior Daisy Todd and sophomore Delaney Garin. Anderson posted a team-high 9.775 on floor in last week's competition, while Garin scored career-best 9.700 on bars.
> In their season opener, the Owls had their best performance on bars, scoring a 48.525.
> The squad features two all-around competitors in sophomore Monica Servidio and freshman Ariana Castrence. Both earned spots on the podium last week in Tuscaloosa. Castrence placed second with a 38.225 and Servidio was third with a 37.875.
> Junior transfer Jazmyn Estrella was strong on bars and vault in her debut in the Cherry and White. Coming to North Broad from Utah State, the Allentown, Pa. native scored a 9.700 on vault and a 9.825 to anchor the Owls' bars lineup.
> Junior Jaylene Everett was also a force for Temple, tying Estrella for the team-high on vault with a 9.700 and scoring a 9.725 on floor.

Scouting the Nittany Lions
> Penn State is led by head coach Sarah Brown, who is in her second year at the helm of the program.
> The squad opened its season at No. 5 Utah. The Nittany Lions fell to the Utes 197.175-194.450.
> The team posted a 49.000 on beam, which was the ninth-best score in the first week of competition.
> The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series against the Owls 14-0. The squads last met in 2018 in a quad meet at Pittsburgh. Temple posted a 194.250, while Penn State scored 196.650 to win the meet.
Scouting the Tigers
> Towson's head coach is Vicki May, who has led the Tigers for eight seasons.
> The squad will open their season at the Little Boston Invitational.
> Towson went 15-16 in their 2018 campaign, averaging a 194.654.
> The Tigers hold the advantage in the series 53-3. In their most recent meeting in a 2018 quad meet at Pittsburgh, Temple took the victory over Towson, 193.875 to 192.050.
