Brown, DiMichele, Foley, and Infante Retained to 2019 Football Staff

PHILADELPHIA – New Temple Football head coach Rod Carey announced the retention of four coaches as he builds his 2019 staff. Fran Brown, Ed Foley, and Gabe Infante will continue to coach the Owls while Adam DiMichele will be retained in an off-field role.
"I'm really excited to be able to work with coaches like Ed, Fran, Gabe and Adam," said Carey. "I always like to surround myself with great teachers, great leaders and great people. They each have those qualities. Their work-ethic and reputation as outstanding recruiters and great coaches, make the decision to keep them on staff an easy one. Their roles will be more clearly defined in the upcoming weeks."
Ed Foley will begin his 12th season at Temple making him the longest tenured member of the staff. He has had numerous roles with the Owls including three stints as interim head coach. He led the Owls in the 2016 Military Bowl and the 2018 Independence Bowl, becoming the first Temple head coach to lead the Owls in multiple bowl games.
Foley spent the 2018 season as the assistant head coach-offense / special teams coordinator / tight ends coach. Temple special teams has been among the best in the country under Foley and 2018 was no different. The Owls blocked five kicks and scored six special teams touchdowns. Return specialist Isaiah Wright was the first player in school history to record a punt and kickoff return touchdown in consecutive seasons and was named first-team All-American by the Sporting News and American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year. His two leading tight ends also combined for 23 catches, 279 yards, two touchdowns, and a two point conversion.
"Anyone who knows me knows I bleed Cherry and White," said Foley. "I love it here at Temple and appreciate the opportunity that Coach Carey has given me to be part of his staff. I'm blessed to be able to walk into [Edberg-Olson Hall] every day and work with a bunch of guys that I love to be around."
Adam DiMichele begins his seventh straight year on the Temple staff and ninth total on the North Broad Street campus following a stellar career with the Owls from 2007-08 when he was a two-time team captain and MVP. In 2014, DiMichele was named wide receivers coach becoming the 19th Temple football player to serve as a full-time coach and the first in over 25 seasons.
DiMichele was the quarterback / inside receivers coach / recruiting coordinator-offense in 2018. He also served as quality control offense/recruiting assistant (2017), director of player development (2015-16), wide receiver coach (2014) and graduate assistant (2013). DiMichele is credited with the development of redshirt sophomore quarterback Anthony Russo who started 10 games in 2018 and posted 2,563 passing yards and 14 touchdowns while leading the team to a 7-3 record in those starts.
"Temple is my home and I'm excited to continue coaching here," said DiMichele. "I've been part of the brotherhood as a player and a coach and it truly is special here. It's easy to see that Coach Carey is putting together a tremendous staff and I'm excited to be a part of it."
Fran Brown will enter his seventh season at Temple and first since returning from Baylor University. Brown was the Bears' assistant head coach and worked with the cornerbacks. He was widely known as the staff's best recruiter and was named a Top 10 recruiter by 24/7 Sports.
Previously at Temple, Brown spent four seasons coaching the cornerbacks. In 2015, Brown's squad of corners was led by senior Tavon Young and sophomore Sean Chandler. Chandler was a second-team All-American Athletic Conference selection, recording four interceptions that season, two of which he returned for touchdowns. Brown also worked with Nate Hairston, Haason Reddick, Jullian Taylor, Tyler Matakevich, Sharif Finch, and Jacob Martin. All eight ended up playing in the NFL.
"This is a blessing to be back home, where it all started for my family and me," said Brown. "Temple is such a prestigious university, which possesses an incredible amount of tradition, and core values that I stand for. Having this opportunity to be a part of Coach Carey's staff is exhilarating for me, and seriously, I'm already in full GO mode with everything as it pertains to building on top of the success that this program has already had. I just want to add as much value as I can to these phenomenal young men, Coach Carey, his staff, and the entire Temple community."
This will be Gabe Infante's first season on the Temple staff and 10th season coaching football in the Philadelphia area. He originally joined the Owls' staff in December 2018, after stepping down as head coach at St. Joseph's Prep following a 13-0 season and a second consecutive state championship.
While at St. Joseph's, Infante compiled a 91-23 record and won four PIAA state championships in nine seasons with the Hawks. Over the last three seasons, the Hawks were an impressive 40-1 with two state championships under Infante. In 2017, he was named U.S. Army Bowl National Coach of the Year and served as head coach of the U-17 National team. He was also nominated by the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2018 Don Shula High School Coach of the Year Award.
"I'm someone who considers himself a lifelong learner, so the opportunity to continue to grow and challenge myself is something that I pride myself on," said Infante. "I connected with Coach Carey right away throughout the process and I think it became apparent that we were going to be able to work with each other. I'm extremely excited for the first time in a long time to have a brand new experience and challenges."
Carey has already hired Brad Ohrt as the team's new strength and conditioning coach. He has also hired Craig Harmon, Jeff Knowles, Melvin Rice, Walter Stewart, and Joe Tripodi who each worked on his NIU staff last season.
