Rally Falls Short for Volleyball at Tulane

11.10.19 | Women's Volleyball

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The Temple volleyball team turned in a strong performance, but saw its rally fall just short as the Owls dropped a 3-1 road match at Tulane on Sunday afternoon. The Green Wave won it 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23 to move to 19-8 overall, 9-5 in conference play. Temple falls to 11-14, 2-12 with the loss.

Keys to the Match
> Tulane looked ready to roll with a 25-16 first set win, but the Owls made it a match with a close set two loss (25-23).
> Temple got on the board with a three point win in the third set, 25-22.
> After opening the fourth with an advantage, the Green Wave rallied and just nipped Temple 25-23 in the deciding fourth set.
> Temple out-hit (.176-.137), out-dug (76-74), and out-blocked Tulane (15-8) in the match.
> However, the Green Wave used a strong serve and a high sideout percentage to limit Temple runs and grab the win.

Quotable: Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam
> "Tulane is a very good serving team, so we knew going in, our serve-receive numbers would be lower than average. We certainly had situations where their serve really gave us difficulties and they were able to go on those runs. But overall, a lot of the other categories, we out-performed Tulane, but we just couldn't handle the serve the way we wanted to."
> "Obviously we wanted to get a win, but I thought Friday's match was arguably one of the worst performances we've had this year, and I thought today's performances was one of our best."
> "I think this weekend we took a really big step forward. After Friday, we had team and staff meetings, and we even had the team do a session with our athletic trainer Helen Clay Gallagher, and our sports psychologist, Emily Galvin. We really tried to go back and visualize us as a program, our history and traditions, and decide how we want to conduct ourselves moving forward, knowing that we only have three matches left and a week of practice. I really think that made a big difference. The team was involved and I really think it's part of our turnaround for today."
