Leandros Lillis Earns First-Team Academic All-District Honors

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer senior Leandros Lillis has been recognized as one of the nation's top student-athletes, landing a spot on the Academic All-District First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon. The Larnaca, Cyprus native earned the honors for the first time in his career and is one of just four forwards within NCAA Division I second district to be selected.
Lillis has been a pivotal attacking force throughout his two seasons with the Owls. This year, he's seen action in all 15 contests and appeared in Temple's starting line-up in its seven most recent games. Earlier this season, he scored his first career goal in thrilling fashion when he notched a game-winner in the 90th minute to propel the Owls to a 1-0 victory over Old Dominion. He's fired off 26 shots and notched four points in his career so far with the Cherry and White and landed a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 7th.
In the classroom, Lillis is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Adult and Organizational Development through the College of Education at Temple. In his time in Cherry and White, he has accumulated the highest GPA on the squad at 3.97, earning him a spot on the President's Honor Roll for having a GPA of 3.5 or above.
CoSIDA's Academic All-America program began in 1952 and currently sponsors programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country, as well as student-athletes who compete in other sports through the At-Large program. Among the criteria for nomination, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
The 2019 Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Honorees selected First Team Academic All-District advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
