PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer standout Lukas Fernandes has signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC for the 2020 season as announced by the club on Thursday afternoon. The senior captain signed with a club option for the 2021 season, pending USL Championship and USSF approval.
"I am very excited for Lukas to begin the next chapter in his soccer career," said head coach Brian Rowland. "He has been a key player and a leader for us over the past two seasons and has all the tools to succeed as a professional player. We look forward to following his professional career, and know he will represent the Temple men's soccer program very well."
Fernandes played a pivotal role in Temple's success both on and off the pitch during his four-year tenure with the Owls. During his final season, the Rochester, N.Y. native led the squad with 11 points from three goals and five assists to help bring the team to new heights. The senior captain started all 17 games he played in this season, earning All-AAC honors for the second straight year to wrap up an illustrious collegiate campaign.
"I'd like to thank everyone at Temple who has helped me get to where I am today," said Fernandes. "I can't thank the coaching staff, my teammates, my teachers and my academic advisors enough for helping me grow on and off the field and pushing me to be the best version of myself."
Fernandes started 34 of 55 games played in his four years at Temple. He wrapped up his time in Cherry and White with 29 points from 10 goals and nine assists and led the squad offensively for the past two seasons. The three-time Athletic Director Honor Roll member will graduate from Temple with a B.S. in Kinesiology.
