PHILADELPHIA - Elizabeth DeFelice, who has served on the Temple University's athletic staff since 2014, has been named the District 2 Equipment Manager of the Year by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA). DeFelice will now be a candidate for the Glenn Sharp National Equipment Manager of the Year. The winner will be announced at the AEMA Convention in June.
"I am truly humbled by this great honor bestowed on me by my peers," said DeFelice. "There are so many deserving individuals in our district that work tirelessly to ensure their student-athletes have the proper equipment to compete, so to be singled out in this way is very special."
DeFelice joined the Temple Athletics staff as the Head Equipment Manager for Olympic Sports in July, 2014, and was promoted to Director of Equipment Operations in June, 2017. In her role, she oversees the equipment operation for Temple's 19 varsity sports teams.
"Liz is one of the hardest workers on our staff," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Tim Thiess. "She is passionate about all of our teams, and goes above and beyond to make sure that each sport has what they need to succeed. It is tremendous that she is being recognized for her hard work here at Temple."
Prior to coming to Temple in 2014, DeFelice worked as an assistant equipment manager at Northwestern University for seven years. She also served in a similar role at the University of Central Florida from 2006-07, and was an intern at UCF for one year before that.
An active member of the AEMA since 2005, DeFelice served as the District V Secretary from 2010 to 2014. She also has been the organization's Social Media Director since 2014 and as well as its Education Committee Chairman since 2016. A rising star among athletic equipment managers, she was presented with the AEMA Service Award in 2014 and has helped rewrite the organization's manual while also working on its monthly newsletter. Â
DeFelice earned a bachelor's degree in physical education, sport and fitness from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis., in 2005. At Carthage, she worked as a student manager for the football team for four years.
