Men’s Basketball Earns Third Seed in AAC Championship; Plays Wichita State/ECU Winner Friday
3.10.19 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA – Temple earned the third seed in the 2019 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship, held March 14-17 at FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn. The Owls (23-8, 13-5 AAC) will play the winner of #6-seed Wichita State (17-13, 10-8) and #11-seed ECU (10-20, 3-15) at 9 pm (8 pm CT) on Friday, March 15.
The Owls earned their seed by virtue of their thrilling 67-62 win over #25/rv UCF Saturday in head coach Fran Dunphy's final home game as the program's coach. This will be the second highest seed for Temple in the AAC Championship, topped only by the 2015-16 season when TU won the regular season title and was the overall top seed.
It is the ninth 20-win season in Dunphy's 13 years at the helm of the Cherry and White. He has guided Temple to seven NCAA Tournament appearances and three conference tournament championships, the last being the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship.
Senior Shizz Alston, Jr., who tied for the regular season scoring title (19.7 ppg) with Memphis' Jeremiah Martin leads the Owls. Junior Quinton Rose (16.5 ppg) and sophomore Nate Pierre-Louis (13.4 ppg) rank eighth and 16th in the conference, respectively. The trio all rank among the top 10 in steals per game with Temple topping the conference in that category at 8.8 per game.
