WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Redshirt senior John Barone shot a one-over 72 to lead Temple to a tie for eighth place following the first round of play Sunday at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. The Owls are 12 strokes off the pace at the 21-team tournament being held at the par-71, 6,817-yard Golden Horseshoe Gold Course.
Recapping the Day

Barone tied for third among the 111 golfers with four birdies on the day. He leads the Owls and is tied for seventh overall.
Senior Trey Wren shot an uncharacteristic six-over 77 to place second for Temple and tie for 44^th overall. He was even par after 10 holes before going triple bogey, double bogey, bogey over the next three holes. He recovered to par the final five holes.
Like Wren, senior Gary McCabe struggled on the back nine with five bogeys and a double bogey after shooting even par on the front. He is tied for 53^rd with a seven-over 78.
Redshirt junior Erik Reisner was one shot behind McCabe with an eight-over 79. His back nine was similar to his three teammates, as he made three double bogeys and two bogeys after an even par front nine.
Senior Sam Soeth was one shot back with a nine-over 80 to tie for 69^th to round out the Temple five.

The Field

Campbell leads the field with a 10-over 294. Drake is one shot back with Eastern Kentucky and Loyola, Md. tied for third with 297s.
Temple shot a 22-over 306 to tie Longwood for eighth.
Drake's Tommi Avant and William & Mary's Matthew Feinstein are tied for the lead with three-under 68s. VCU's Adrian Vagberg and Campbell's Max Theodorakis were the only other golfers to break par with one-under 70s.
