Women's Rowing Faces Top Competition at the Doc Hosea Invitational

CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Temple women's rowing team raced tough competition on Saturday, competing at the 12-team Doc Hosea Regatta on the Cooper River.

Top Competition
> The Owls finished eighth overall in the 12 team field, which featured four teams that qualified for the 2018 NCAA Championships.
> Temple came away with a third varsity eight bronze, while also finishing fifth in both the second varsity eight and varsity four events.

Varsity Eight
> The Owls finished their morning heat in a time of 7:03.98, and improved on their time in the petite final.
> Temple's finals time of 7:00.24 ranked them fifth in the final and 11th overall.

Second Varsity Eight
> Temple advanced to the grand finals with a solid morning heat race that saw the Owls finish second in 6:56.50, less than a second off of first-place Minnesota (6:56.50).
> In the grand finals, the Owls placed fifth overall (6:55.29) in a tight field. Temple was just two tenths of a second out of fourth place and less than three seconds away from a podium finish.

Varsity Four
> Temple finished fourth in the opening heat, clocking in at 7:48.57, as just three seconds separated the first through fourth spots.
> The Owls' time was good enough to push them through to the grand finals where they finished fifth in 8:01.74.

Second Varsity Four
> Temple's 2V4 finished fourth in their morning heat in 8:16.11.
> In the petite final, the Owls finished second in 8:23.75 to rank 8th overall.

Third Varsity Eight
> Both Temple 3V's took third in their opening heats, as the Owls' "A" boat finished in 7:24.43, while the "B" boat clocked in at 7:39.99.
> In the finals, the "A" boat took home Temple's only medal of the day, a bronze, as the crew took third in 7:24.80.
> The Owls' "B" boat won the petite final in 7:44.60 to finish seventh overall.

Up Next
> Temple has a weekend off before hitting the river again for the two-day Knecht Cup Regatta.
> The event runs Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14 at the Cooper River.
