Men's Tennis Upsets No. 2 Tulane to Advance to AAC Semifinals

ORLANDO, Fla.— Temple men's tennis (16-6, 5-1 AAC) upset reigning AAC champion Tulane to clinch a berth to its first ever AAC semifinals. The match came down to a tiebreak on the final court, where Paolo Cucalon outlasted Luis Erlenbusch to propel the Owls to a 4-3 victory in a four-hour thriller.
Match Notes
> No. 7 Temple went out to a 1-0 lead on Tulane, earning the doubles point with victories at first and third doubles. The Green Wave took the decision on court two and the pair of Alberto Caceres Casas and Mark Wallner came out on top on court one, 6-3. The point came down to third doubles, where Uladzimir Dorash and Paolo Cucalon prevailed in a tight contest, 7-6(4).
> In singles play, the Green Wave took the decision on courts five and one to give them a 2-1 advantage.
> Juan Araoz evened up the score, downing Tulane's Akos Kotorman, 6-4, 6-2.
> The back-and-forth continued, as the Green Wave came out on top in the No. 4 spot and Mark Wallner defeated his opponent at second singles to tie the contest up, 3-3.
> The match was decided in dramatic fashion on court three. Cucalon took the first set, but Erlenbusch came back to force a third set. In the final set, Cucalon was facing a 5-1 deficit, but dug in and rallied to force a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Erlenbusch went up 4-1, and yet again Cucalon battled back. The junior won the tiebreak, 8-6, to take the victory at third singles and clinch the match for the Owls.
