Armstead Selected by Jacksonville in 2019 NFL Draft

PHILADELPHIA – The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Temple running back Ryquell Armstead (Millville, N.J.) in the fifth round of the 2019 National Football League Draft on Saturday afternoon. He was the 140th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft and the second for Temple.
On Friday, the Indianapolis Colts selected cornerback Rock Ya-Sin with the 34th overall pick. Temple has had multiple players drafted for the fourth straight year and the 20th time in school history.
Temple has had 10 players selected in the NFL Draft over the last four seasons, however, Armstead is just the second offensive player to be drafted from Temple (Dion Dawkins, 2nd round, Buffalo, 2017).
Armstead finished his Temple career fourth on the school's all-time rushing leaders list with 2,812 yards. He also finished with 34 rushing touchdowns, good for third all-time in AAC history. He played in 47 career games and had 573 carries with a 4.9 yards per carry average. He saved his best season for last, rushing 210 times for 1,098 yards and 13 touchdowns in just 10 games. His best game of the year came in a 59-49 win at Houston when he had 30 carries for 210 yards and an AAC-record six touchdowns. Armstead broke the 100-yard mark in six of 10 games he played in and was ranked second in the AAC and 13th in the nation in rushing yards per game with 109.8.
Armstead is the 73rd Temple football player to be drafted into the NFL. He joins Robby Anderson (New York Jets), Cole Boozer (Tampa Bay), Sean Chandler (New York Giants), Dion Dawkins (Buffalo), Sharif Finch (Tennessee), Kyle Friend (Cleveland), Nate Hairston (Indianapolis), Matt Ioannidis (Washington), Keith Kirkwood (New Orleans), Jacob Martin (Seattle), Tyler Matakevich (Pittsburgh), Brandon McManus (Denver), Haason Reddick (Arizona), Jullian Taylor (San Francisco), Phillip Walker (Indianapolis), Tahir Whitehead (Oakland), Muhammad Wilkerson (Green Bay), Rock Ya-Sin (Indianapolis), and Tavon Young (Baltimore) as former Owls currently active in the NFL.
