Seventy-Seven Student-Athletes Take Part in Commencement

5.9.19 | General

PHILADELPHIA -- A total of 77 Owl student-athletes from this academic year are now confirmed graduates, including 62 who participated in the 132nd annual Commencement on Thursday. In all, more than 9,000 students graduated with the Temple University Class of 2019.

The 77 Owl student-athletes represent all 19 of Temple's intercollegiate sports. Football has the most graduates with 13, followed by seven from men's crew and six each from women's rowing, fencing and lacrosse.

"Graduation is by far the best day in the year in collegiate athletics," said Temple University Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "It is the culmination of four years of hard work in the classroom which has hopefully prepared our young men and women for life.  I am so very proud of all of our student-athletes who earned their degrees today, and wish them well in their professional endeavors."

Temple's class of 2019 has continuously raised the standard throughout their time on North Broad Street. The class has a combined GPA of 3.27, and is the fourth straight graduating class who has never seen the student-athlete population earn a semester GPA of less than 3.0.

The Owls' graduating class represents nine different colleges, the most coming from the Fox School of Business (36) and the College of Liberal Arts (14).

In celebration of the accomplishments of the graduating seniors, Temple Athletics held a toast for the student-athletes and their families on Wednesday, May 8. Each graduate was presented with a special student-athlete sash that was worn during the ceremonies.
