PHILADELPHIA -- Temple men's soccer head coach Brian Rowland announced the Owls' 2019 schedule today, which features eight games at the Temple Sports Complex. The Owls open the season on Friday, August 30 hosting Rutgers at 7:00 p.m.
"We are very excited to announce our upcoming 2019 schedule," said Rowland. "This slate will test our team and prepare us for the every growing and strong AAC conference. Â Our fans will get to see us play some new and challenging opponents this year, and our home games will feature some must-see action at TSC, starting with opening night vs. Rutgers."
Temple's schedule features seven games against teams selected for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Before opening with Rutgers, Temple plays a strong exhibition schedule, starting off with the defending NCAA Champion, Maryland Terrapins. Rowland, who spent eight seasons on the Maryland staff, including three years as the Terps' associate head coach, will bring his squad to College Park on August 18.
Two more exhibitions follow, including Rider, another NCAA tournament team, at home on August 19. Temple concludes its exhibition slate on the road at Stony Brook on August 24.
After playing Rutgers on August 30 to start the official season, Temple hits the road for a pair of games, playing at Georgetown (Sept. 2) and Villanova (Sept. 7). A pair of weekday home games follow, as the Owls will play Lafayette (Sept. 13) and Delaware (Sept. 17) under the lights at the TSC.
September matches wrap up with the Owls at Soccer Six rival, Penn (Sept. 21), before playing their first conference game of the year at UCF (Sept. 27).
Seven dates of competition in October begin with Temple hosting ODU (Oct. 1) and Cincinnati (Oct. 5). The Owls then go on the road to play at St. John's (Oct. 8) and Memphis (Oct. 12) before playing at home against USF (Oct. 18).
Temple's stout schedule doesn't let up as the regular season winds down, as the Owls will battled NCAA Tournament teams in three of their last four matches.
Louisville (Oct. 22) is Temple's last non-conference opponent, while a home game against UConn (Oct. 26) finishes the October slate. The Cherry and White then play at Tulsa (Nov. 1) before a final night game at the TSC features SMU on November 5.
The 2019 American Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament kicks off the week following the regular season.
