Temple Mourns Loss of Longtime Benefactor Bill Rinck
1.31.20 | General, Owl Club
PHILADELPHIA – Temple University mourns the loss of longtime benefactor, William "Bill" Rinck, who passed away on January 27. He was 92.
"Bill Rinck was one of our most beloved and hardest working supporters of Temple Athletics," said Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "Bill was not only the first president of the Owl Club, but also this Owl legend formed our current Legends Society of Temple athletics supporters. My warmest thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time. He will be truly missed."
A 1951 graduate of the Temple University School of Business (Fox School), Mr. Rinck rose to be a top executive at Aramark Corp.
As a student Mr. Rinck was an avid Temple sports fan and upon graduation became active in the Alumni Association and the Temple Varsity Club.
When the Varsity Club was assumed by the Owl Club in 1983, Mr. Rinck became its President, wrote the by-laws, and with a few volunteers from the executive committee established an office in the athletics department.
Several times a week he would assist the one Owl Club staff member in calling Owl Club donor prospects. He and the other volunteers would also plan and execute Cherry and White Day activities, a banquet for every athletic team, organize the Owl Club Golf outing and oversee the Owl Awards.
In 2003, Mr. Rinck formed the Legends Society to honor those donors whose lifetime giving to the athletics department totaled $100,000 or more. Each spring he orchestrated the Legends Society dinner to recognize each level of Legends and induct new members for that fiscal year.
To insure that the Legends Society would continue to grow and assist the athletics department, Mr. Rinck, and his wife Betty, generously created the Owl Club Legends Endowment.
Mr. Rinck is truly regarded as the "Father" of the Owl Club.
A memorial Service will be held at Epworth Methodist Church, 501 Morgan Avenue, Palmyra, NJ on Feb 8, 2020 at 3:00pm.
