Men’s Basketball Celebrates Hooter The Owl’s Birthday Sunday with Visit from USF

PHILADELPHIA – There will be a celebration Sunday afternoon at the Liacouras Center as Temple celebrates its beloved mascot Hooter The Owl's birthday during the men's basketball game with USF (Noon/CBSSN/1210 AM WPHT).  The Owls (14-14, 6-9 AAC) will be looking to get back on the winning track after suffering two heart-breaking road losses. USF (12-16, 5-10 AAC) is one game back of the Owls in the conference standings and is coming off a 73-68 overtime win over ECU Wednesday.  That win snapped a four-game losing streak.

PROMOTIONS
> Hooter The Owl's Birthday: Celebrate Hooter the Owl's Birthday at the Temple-USF Basketball game this Sunday at Noon at the Liacouras Center.  Meet local mascots, enjoy games and activities, and get player autographs after the game. There will also be clowns, face painters, balloon artists, animals from the Elmwood Park Zoo, superheroes, princesses, and more to enjoy.
> Baby Race:  Temple Athletics is featuring its first baby race at halftime of the game.
> Pow6rful Minds:  As part of the conference's Mental Health Awareness Week, coaches will wear green "Pow6rful Minds" pins in an effort to spread awareness about mental health issues and end the stigma surrounding them.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple, under the direction of head coach Aaron McKie, features a balanced attack with seven players averaging 5.8 ppg or more.
> Senior guard Quinton Rose leads Temple (2nd AAC) in scoring (16.4 ppg), assists (3.5 apg/9th AAC) and steals (2.1 spg/3rd AAC).  Rose, who is also the AAC's all-time leader in points (1,813) and steals (229), is the only players to rank in the Top 10 in the conference in these categories. 
> Junior guard Nate Pierre-Louis leads Temple in rebounding (8.3 rpg/5th AAC), while ranking second in scoring (11.5 ppg), assists (3.0 apg) and steals (1.9/5th AAC).
 > Senior Alani Moore II (8.7 ppg) has doubled his offensive output from last year (4.1 ppg) and is second in the AAC in threes per game (2.2) and fourth in three-point percentage (.401).
> Rounding out the starting five are senior Damion Moore (2.0 ppg/2.4 rpg) and junior J.P. Moorman II (5.8 ppg/5.2 rpg). Sophomore Jake Forrester (8.0 ppg/4.0 rpg), who had started 16 straight games prior to the last contest, leads the Owls in field goal percentage (.535).
> Junior De'Vondre Perry (6.0 ppg), who is 3rd in the AAC in three-point percentage (.407), redshirt junior Monty Scott (7.3 ppg), who topped double figures in five of the last six games, and freshman Josh Pierre-Louis (4.0 ppg) have provided the most impact from the Owls' deep bench. 

SCOUTING USF
> USF, under the direction of head coach Brian Gregory, ranks 20th in the nation in scoring defense and is 10-3 when holding opponents under 62 points.
> Junior David Collins leads USF and ranks ninth in the AAC in scoring (14.0 ppg). Collins has also attempted the 19th-most free throws in the NCAA with 184 and has the most career attempts in AAC history with 590.
> Senior guard Laquincy Rideau is second on the team in scoring (12.7 ppg) and 11th in the NCAA with 2.4 steals per game.  Last year at Temple he had a triple double (18 pts, 10 asts, 10 stls).
> USF is just 2-6 in road games this year, but one of the wins was at Memphis (75-73 on Feb. 8).

SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and USF have met 13 times, with the Owls leading 11-2 in the all-time series.
> The Owls have won 11 in a row and are 5-1 at the Liacouras Center against the Bulls.  The lone USF win in Philadelphia came in the teams' first conference meeting, 82-75, Jan. 9, 2014.
> This is the only meeting between the schools this season.  Both games in 2018-19 went to overtime with Temple winning 82-80 at home and 70-69 on the road.
> The first meeting in the series was eight years ago in the NCAA Second Round at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. The Bulls won by a score of 58-44 after trailing Temple 19-15 at halftime.
