Lacrosse Hosts George Washington for Season Opener

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team is set for the 2020 campaign, hosting George Washington for its season opener on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. This will be the first of six-straight home games for the Owls, who boast a 12-game home slate this year.

Scouting Temple
> In its 14th year under the direction of head coach Bonnie Rosen, Temple is looking to improve upon its 6-11 (3-2 AAC) finish in 2019. In its first year in the AAC, the team advanced to the American Conference Tournament before falling to Cincinnati in the semifinals.
> The Owls will return the majority of their starting lineup, losing just four seniors from last year's roster. Seven freshmen will suit up for their first season in cherry and white, while 10 seniors will see their final season opener.
> Four Owls were named to the American Preseason All-Conference Team, with Kara Nakrasius, Maddie Gebert, Maryn Lowell, and Bridget Whitaker all earning a spot on the team. Lowell was also named the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year. 
> Gebert led the team in goals last season, recording 40 to average 2.35 per game to rank fourth in the conference. Nakrasius' 139 career draw controls come in at No. 4 in program history, while her average of 4.00 per game came in at fourth in the American. Lowell averaged 7.12 saves per game to rank second fifth in the league, recording 114 saves for a career total of 384.

Scouting George Washington
> The Colonials are under the direction of first-year head coach Jennifer Ulehla, previously serving as the program's consultant. A member of the A-10 Conference, George Washington finished 5-12 (3-6 A-10) last season. The Colonials went 1-7 away from Washington, D.C., with its lone road win coming at Davidson in a tight 12-11 decision.
> George Washington is returning its full squad from last season, losing zero seniors in 2019. The eight seniors of 2020 include four three-year starters.
> GW's three leading scorers combined for 79 of the team's 177 goals in 2019. Caroline Kiernan's 43 draw controls last season tie for ninth in program history, with her 31 caused turnovers coming in at No. 3 in the Colonials' single season records.
> The team will look to a pair of keepers to protect the cage while the defense will be anchored by Posie Paoletta, Caroline Esmond, and Cassie Scandalios. Paoletta's ranks sixth in the program with 59 career caused turnovers, while Esmond and Scandalios combing for 43 ground balls last year. 

Series History
> Temple and George Washington are meeting for the 14th time in series history, with the Owls holding a 9-3 advantage.
> The last meeting between the two teams was in 2013, when Temple recorded a 12-9 victory.
