Big Second Half Not Enough, Lacrosse Falls at Villanova
3.11.20 | Women's Lacrosse
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Despite a thrilling second half, the Temple lacrosse team fell 13-11 at Villanova Wednesday night. With the loss, the Owls snap their four-game win-streak and fall to 5-4 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 3-5.
Game Summary
> Temple struck first, with Belle Mastropietro putting the team on the board.
> The Wildcats would score the next seven before Julie Schickling found Abaigeal Ryan to put the score at 7-2.
> Villanova scored five of the next six, and Temple went into halftime trailing 12-3.
> The Owls were on fire in the second half, holding Villanova to just one goal.
> Temple scored eight goals in the final 30 minutes of the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Statistically Speaking
> Mastropietro, Meghan Hoffman, and Bridget Whitaker all recorded hat tricks.
> Hoffman's nine shots led the team, as did Kara Nakrasius' five draw controls.
> Maryn Lowell made eight of Temple's 13 saves, with Olivia Martin posting four and Eryn Beal recording one.
Quotable
> "Villanova really took it to us in the first half, but we responded with a tremendous second half. We made some adjustments but I can't take credit for the change, the players really got after it. They fought really hard and played a fantastic second half. I couldn't be prouder of their effort in the second half, and it's a shame about how big of a hole we got ourselves into. Every game has something to build off of, and an 8-1 second half is fantastic."
Up Next
> The Owls will continue their road stretch, traveling to Mount St. Mary's on March 14.
