A Celebration of Champions

With an in-person ceremony not possible this year, Temple Athletics celebrated the #Stellas2020 virtually, announcing the winners on social media last week. 

In addition to individual academic success, we also recognize team academic success. This year, the team with the highest cumulative GPA -- a whopping 3.75 -- is Women's Cross Country!

Moving on to success in the field of play, the Owls had six NCAA qualifiers for the shortened 2019-20 season!

Temple teams also took home three conference titles!

Reaching the pinnacle of their sports, Temple had eight All-Americans in 2019-20!

In addition, an impressive 16 Owls earned All-Region honors since the last Stellas!

The Parliament Spirit Award recognizes one member from each team that has demonstrated the true spirit of the student-athlete and has exuded a high level of sportsmanship and team spirit. Congrats to this year's winners!

The next award recognizes two student-athletes who have demonstrated leadership qualities in the area of community service, inspiring others to engage in similar selfless civic endeavors for the purpose of improving the quality of life for those in the local community.

Maryn Lowell is a One Love facilitator for the Owls' lacrosse team, has completed over 450 volunteer hours at the Women’s Law Project in Philadelphia as a telephone counselor, and currently serves as a pen pal for a 4th grader at a local elementary school.

Dawson Anders of Temple Golf participated in numerous community service opportunities throughout the year, many of which were independent of department opportunities, including delivering Thanksgiving dinners to families in need.

Taking home the 2019-20 Owl Cup is Temple Fencing! The Owl Cup honors the team that has demonstrated a strong commitment to both community service and supporting fellow teammates.

The Resnick Academic Support Center Award recognizes a student-athlete who has demonstrated academic exploration, personal growth, and professional development. This year's winner is Sarah Park of Temple Fencing!

The Trustee Ten Awards recognize the student-athletes with the top 10 GPAs in the department. Each recipient must have earned a minimum of 60 credit hours and have participated on his/her athletic team for at least one year.

The PNC Scholar-Athlete Awards recognize the top male and female scholars in the department. Our winners have demonstrated passion for academia, scholarship, and pursuit of excellence in the classroom.

The Newcomer of the Year Awards recognize outstanding athletic achievement in a student-athlete's initial campaign at Temple.
