A Statement from Temple Student-Athletes
6.5.20 | General
A statement from Temple Student-Athletes:
Â
We are outraged. We are upset. We are hurting. We are going to be a voice for change.
Â
As Student-Athletes, we have to work as a collective unit to accomplish our missions and win.
"A house divided against itself can not stand." -Abraham Lincoln
We are currently in a battle within our country and our communities. In order to win this battle, we need every race, ethnicity, religion, gender, and creed to come together as one.
We feel that our athletic department needs to do more, and employ all our teams to be public and speak out against the recent racial injustices and police brutality in our country, now and in the future. We would be failing ourselves if we did not take action and tell the world how we are feeling.
Â
We do not tolerate racism and discrimination of any kind. We are anti-racist. We must dismantle white supremacy. We must fight to end police brutality and social injustice.
Â
To our non-black community and student-athletes, we need you. As many put it, "White Silence is Violence." If we preach being a family, we must act like it.
Â
We are nothing without our black community. Black Lives Matter.
Â
One statement is not enough. To be a part of the solution and change that we all need, our Student-Athletes will be marching at 2 PM on June 6, 2020. All of the love that we receive on the field, court, track, etc should also be reflective off of those stages as well. The peaceful protest will be taking part on Broad St. and Cecil B. Moore Ave. Join us in the spread of Peace, Love, and Positivity.
Â
As an athletic department, we stand with equality, justice, and are committed to being the change that we seek.
In the near future we will be announcing what our Student-Athletes and teams will be doing to make our community, campus, country, and world a better place.
Greatness is choosing to move in love.
Greatness is standing for those who have been systematically oppressed and marginalized.
Greatness will not quit until we are all treated with equal respect and dignity.
Â
We are Greatness. GDQ.
