Getting to Know: Keyshawn Paul

1.27.21 | Football

Keyshawn "KP" Paul joins the Owls after two seasons as a member of the UConn Huskies. Paul, a junior, entered the transfer portal after the Huskies opted not to field a team in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Miami, Florida, native played defensive back in all of UConn's games in 2019 and all but one during his freshman campaign in 2018. During the 2019 season, he accumulated 36 tackles, 2.5 TFLs and an interception.

While attending Jackson High School, Paul was a three-sport athlete. He played football, basketball and ran track and field.

As a transfer from a former American Athletic Conference institution, Paul joins the Owls with familiarity of what the conference consists of. Not only did he make his collegiate debut against UCF, but Paul had three tackles and a batted pass when he played against Temple at Lincoln Financial Field in 2019.

Paul is excited for what the city of Philadelphia has to offer. "It is way way better than a small town, great food, the Rocky Steps and a ton of energy everywhere that you go" Paul explained. The energy will certainly be felt in the fall at Lincoln Financial Field.

There was a lot that drew Paul to Temple but ultimately, he said that he "sensed a family mentality" and that "the coaching staff had something special."

As a newcomer, whether a freshman or transfer, there is a lot to prove. "I am going to give it everything I have" said Paul. "I am going to get better and better, and make an impact anyway that I can." He also expressed an American Conference Championship as a major goal of his.

Paul said that there is a lot to know about him but first he wants fans to "know I am a good person; they can see me dance and see me be me." However, he said the most important thing for fans to know is that they can simply call him "KP."
