Volleyball Hosts UConn on Saturday at McGonigle

PHILADELPHIA -- After a two-match series against cross-town rival La Salle was postponed, the Owls will host former AAC rival UConn on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at McGonigle Hall. The match will air live on ESPN+.

OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
The Owls are coming off of a 12-15 season in 2019, which included a 9-0 start, the best in program history, before a mid-season skid saw the team struggle during conference play. The Cherry and White ranked fifth in the final AAC East Division standings last season, not qualifying to the first ever American Athletic Conference Tournament.

Temple returns All-Conference selection in right side Peyton Boyd, who was named to the 2021 AAC Preseason team. She ledthe Owls in kills during conference play last season. Overall, Temple has eight upperclassmen returning, which includes four starters from a year ago.

Temple 3, Morgan State 2 (25-14, 17-25, 25-27, 25-20, 15-12)

The Temple volleyball team opened the long awaited 2020-21 season with a thriller that was worth the wait. Temple rallied from a 2-1 deficit and won a 3-2 match against Morgan State on Saturday night at McGonigle Hall.

Three player registered double-digit kill performances, led by junior Miray Bolukbasi who tallied 18 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Junior Peyton Boyd came on strong in the final three sets to finish with 13 kills, recording just three errors to hit at a .455 clip. Rookie Ilyada Dincer finished with 10 kills, while also adding eight digs and junior Tyler Lindgren tallied the first double-double of the season for Temple with 45 assists and 15 digs.

SCOUTING UCONN
UConn enters a new era this season, competing in the Big East after seven seasons as a member of the American Athletic Conference. The Huskies were picked to finish third in the Big East Eastern Division poll, behind defending champion St. John's and regional power Villanova.

UConn finished 12-16 overall last season, which included a 6-10 record in the American. The Huskies finished tied for fourth in the AAC East, and did not advance to the first ever American Athletic Conference Tournament. UConn returns junior Caylee Parker, who finished ninth in the conference in kills per set (3.28) last season, as well as junior setter Courtney Morris who finished with 8.32 assists per set a year ago.

TEMPLE VS. UCONN
Temple is 12-7 all-time against UConn, dating back to 1983. The Huskies own the recent edge in the series however, sweeping both matches against the Owls in last year's AAC regular season schedule.
