Owls in the NFL - Week 6
10.19.21 | Football
Head Coach Bruce Arians (1983-88) and his staff filled with former Temple personnel, had a successful return to Philadelphia on Thursday Night Football when his Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Eagles, 28-22. Shaun Bradley (2016-19) had three tackles for the hometown Eagles.
Â
Matt Rhule (2013-16) and his Carolina Panthers' staff littered with Temple connections lost a heartbreaker in overtime to the Minnesota Vikings, 34-28. As always, former Owls had something to say about the results of the game. Haason Reddick (2012-16), Sean Chandler (2014-17), and Sam Franklin (2016-19) helped a stingy defense. Reddick had eight tackles and a fumble recovery to set up the Panthers first score. Chandler had a career-high 10 tackles and a forced fumble, and Franklin added two tackles. Robby Anderson (2011-13, 2015) was quiet for most of the day with just three catches for 11 yards but he scored a late touchdown to tie the game with under a minute to play. Colin Thompson (2014-16) was in on the action on both offense and special teams.

There was no American Werewolf in London but there was a successful sequel to the Temple Owl in London. One week after Matt Hennessy and his Atlanta Falcons won across the pond,
Chapelle Russell (2015-19) and his Jacksonville Jaguars invaded England and posted their first victory of the season with a 23-20 win on a walk-off 53-yard field goal. Coincidently, Russell saw action on defense for the first time this season and contributed four tackles.
Â
Two former Owls faced off against each other when Jacob Martin (2014-17) and the Houston Texans matched up against Rock Ya-Sin (2018) at Indianapolis. Ya-Sin with four tackles and his Colts, bested the Texans, 31-3.
Â
Michael Dogbe (2014-18) and his Arizona Cardinals continue to be the NFL's only undefeated team as they went to Cleveland and beat the Browns, 37-14. Dogbe had one tackle and a fumble recovery.
Â
Around the league, Tavon Young (2012-15) and the Baltimore Ravens took down the San Diego Chargers, 34-6. Matt Ioannidis (2012-15) had two tackles but his Washington Football Team lost 31-13 to the Kansas City Chiefs. And although Brandon McManus (2009-12) was perfect on his four kicks, he and Nate Hairston (2012-16) saw their Denver Broncos lose to the Las Vegas Raiders, 34-24.

In a Monday Night Football clash, the Tennessee Titans proved to be just a bit too much for Dion Dawkins (2013-16), Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) and the Buffalo Bills. Matakevich had two tackles in the game but it was a stop by the Titans that won the game when the Bills failed to score on a quarterback sneak on the goal line as time expired.
