Men’s Soccer Drops to Memphis, 2-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Temple men's soccer (2-10-2, 0-8-0 AAC) fell to Memphis on the road (5-8-1, 4-4-0 AAC), 2-1 on Wednesday night. Despite finding an equalizer late in the second half, the Tigers capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity just one minute later to earn the win.
How It Happened
>Memphis entered the game controlling the possession, finding the go-ahead goal just 14 minutes in play. The Tigers forced a turnover in the Owls defensive third, sending a quick cross into the box for the Linekar Rodrigues dos Santo's goal.
>Memphis continued to exert offensive pressure, but the Cherry and White fought tirelessly on their defensive end to successfully fend off the Tigers for the remainder of the half.
>The Owls defense showed consistency as they entered the second half, holding strong on the backline to successfully defend three Tiger corners by the 53rd minute.
>After 61 minutes of scoreless play, Temple found their stride. Tessho Kobayashi sent a leading pass into Kyle Hellmann at close range. Hellmann took one step before slipping the ball past the hands of Memphis goalkeeper Parker Lackland for the equalizer.
>Memphis wasted no time in their response, earning a penalty kick just one minute later. Artur De Luca lined up the kick, sending it into the back of the net with ease for the 2-1 lead.
>With less than 15 minutes remaining, Temple continued in their offensive pursuits, earning four shots, but failed to convert.
>In the 86th minute, the Tigers drew their second penalty kick of the night, but Temple goalkeeper Goodwill Agbaadem leaped to the right, making the diving deflection to keep the Owls within reach.
>With only four-minute remaining in play, the Cherry and White looked for one more, but the Memphis defense held strong to close out the match and earn the win.
