Volleyball Drops a Five-Set Heartbreaker to Green Wave

Temple falls to 2-3 in five-set matches this season
NEW ORLEANS – For a fourth consecutive match, graduate student Miray Bolukbasi tallied a double-double, but it wasn't enough to propel the Temple volleyball to a win on Halloween. The Owls fell to the Tulane Green Wave (14-10, 8-3 AAC) in the five-set, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 7-15 loss.
In the loss, Bolukbasi had 11 digs and poured in a team-high 19 kills. It was the third time this season the Turkey native has achieved 19 kills in a match. Teammate Peyton Boyd came close to her season-high mark of 11 kills as she chipped in 10.

- Bolukbasi ignited the Owls' offense out of the gate as she tallied four kills before a media timeout was called.
- The Cherry and White trailed by two points out of the media time out, 15-13. However, Tulane won 25-16 by winning 10 of the last 13 points.
- Bolukbasi led the Owls in the first set with five kills, hitting .571 on seven attempts.
- Boyd added three kills for TU, while hitting .740 on four attempts.
- With the Owls trailing 3-1, consecutive aces from libero Falanika Danielson propelled Temple to a 14-10 advantage.
- Tulane followed up the Owls' rally with one of its own. The Green Wave took a short 22-20 lead with the help of three kills from Anna Davis and a pair from Lexie Douglas.
- Again, with Temple behind, 22-21, Temple setter Patrycja Zielinska served out the second set on a 4-0 run that included a pair of aces from the freshman.
- The third set saw 11 ties and five lead changes.
- The Green Wave grasped to a slight advantage of 11-9, but Owls' graduate student Katerina Papazoglou served two straight aces, forcing Tulane to call a time out.
- Neither team could expand their advantage over the other in the middle stages of the third set. In a span of 12 points, both sides burnt three timeouts, only to keep the score knotted at 17-17.
- Coming out its final timeout of the set, Temple notched three straight points for a 20-17 lead, but Tulane won eight of the last nine points to go on to win the set, 25-18.
- Douglas had a set-high eight kills on a .727 hitting percentage in the set victory for the Green Wave.
- Bolukbasi and freshman Taylor Davenport added three kills apiece in set three for Temple.
- Both teams hit under .175 in the set, but the Green Wave had the advantage of .171 to Temple's .086.
- Temple won set four 25-21, winning wire to wire.
- Behind a team hitting percentage of .395, outside hitter Bolukbasi had a set-high of six kills to lead both teams.
- In her return to action for the first time in two weeks, senior Gem Grimshaw added four kills for the Cherry and White in set four.
- Defensive specialist Nikki Shimao assisted the Owls with six of the team's 15 assists.
- A reversal of misfortunes for Temple in the final set saw the Green Wave take the lead and never look back, winning 15-7.
- Tulane hit .600 in the fifth and final set, compared to Temple's .200.
- Douglas had four kills in the last frame for the Green Wave.
- Bolukbasi and Boyd had two putaways for Temple.

- The Owls will return to action next weekend, Nov. 5 and Nov. 7, at home in the confines of McGonigle Hall. The Cherry and White will host Memphis on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET and two days later, they will take on SMU at 1 p.m. ET. Both matches will be available on the ESPN+ app.
