Volleyball Downed by Tulsa in Three Sets

TULSA, Okla. – On Sunday, the Temple volleyball were downed three sets on the road at Tulsa (13-12, 9-6 AAC) at Reynolds Arena by the score of 23-25, 23-25, 17-25.
In a match that featured 33 ties and 14 lead changes, Temple and Tulsa combined for 14 team blocks. Owls' middle blocker Taylor Davenport led all players with five individual blocks, while the Owls team registered six players with at least one stuff.
SET 1
- Tulsa picked up the first score of the set, but Temple would not trail over the following 31 (16-15) points. In that stretch, freshman Jaaliyah Evans came off the bench and sparked the Owls offensively with three of her eight kills on the day.
- Tulsa would tie the score and take the lead, only giving up their advantage once down the stretch.
- The Owls put doubt into Tulsa late in the set after falling behind by three points, 22-19, as they recaptured the lead briefly with the help of a 4-0 run, including one of two service aces in the first set by libero Falanika Danielson.
- Tulsa went on to win set one, 25-23.
Set 2
- Temple jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but Tulsa rattled off five-straight points to take a 6-5 advantage, including a stretch where the Golden Hurricane forced four-straight Temple errors.
- Both teams traded points throughout the latter stages of set two, and neither side could string together enough points to pull away from the other by more than two points.
- In a stretch of seven points, Temple would win five of those and take a 22-20 advantage.
- When it looked like the Cherry and White turned the corner to pull out a set win, the Golden Hurricane won five of the next six points to win, 25-23, for the second consecutive time.
- Dating back to the Oct. 22 match in McGonigle Hall, it was the fourth consecutive set this season the Golden Hurricane would defeat Owls, 25-23.
- Tulsa's Kayley Kassaday had seven of her match-high 19 kills in the set.
- Temple's Miray Bolukbasi kept her team close with the first of her two, four-kill sets on the day.
Set 3
- Tulsa jumped out to a 16-10 advantage, but Temple chipped away at the opponents' lead. The Owls were able to close the gap to three points, 17-14, but that was as tight as the set would get. The Golden Hurricane closed out the match on an 8-3 run. Aysu Dalogullari had two of her set-high five kills down the stretch.
- Bolukbasi had four more kills to lead the visitors offensively.
- On the defensive side, sophomore Taylor Davenport had two of her match-high five blocks in the set three loss.
Overall, the Owls drop to 5-22 on the season and 1-15 in the American.
