Steenrod, Franco, Kishbaugh, Added to Strength and Conditioning Staff

PHILADELPHIA – Temple Athletics bolstered its strength and conditioning coaching staff this fall with the hiring of Ben Steenrod, Peter Franco and Tyler Kishbaugh, announced assistant athletics director for Olympic sport performance Tim Teefy. Steenrod will serve in the role of as assistant head strength and conditioning coach with Franco and Kishbaugh joining the staff as assistant strength and conditioning coaches. The trio have already been working with various teams since September.
"We are so happy to announce the hiring of these quality coaches," said Teefy. "Peter, Tyler and Ben bring with them tremendous experience and fit in nicely with our mission of maximizing the performance of our student-athletes here at Temple University."
Steenrod, who earned his bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from Virginia Tech in 2008, as well as his MBA from Saint Joseph's in 2015, is the veteran of the trio. He began his coaching career as a student intern at Virginia Tech before being hired as an assistant strength coach at Villanova where he worked from 2008 to 2010. Following his two years at Villanova, Steenrod joined the staff at Saint Joseph's as an assistant strength coach in 2010. In his 11 years there, he was promoted twice, first in 2014 to head strength and coach in 2014 and later to head women's basketball strength and conditioning coach in 2020.
Franco, who owns a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Bridgewater State ('18) and a master's degree in exercise science from Merrimack College ('19), has been actively working the strength and conditioning field since Jan. 2017. Following internships on the intercollegiate staffs at Stonehill (2017-18), Holy Cross (2018), Merrimack (graduate fellow, 2018-19) and Villanova (2019-20), he served two years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Integrated Medical Health in Wayne, Pa. Just prior to his arrival he returned to Villanova as a volunteer sport performance coach in June 2021.
Kishbaugh, who owns a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Ithaca ('19) and a master's degree in exercise science from California (Pa.) ('21), has made a similar path to Temple as Franco, working with various athletic departments since 2016. He interned at five different schools, Lehigh (2016), Villanova (2018), Ithaca (2018), North Carolina (2019) before returning to the Wildcats (2019-20). His most recent stop was as an assistant athletic performance coach at North Carolina from January 2021 before joining the Owls staff in the fall.
