Football Defeated by Navy in Season Finale, 38-14

11.27.21 | Football

PHILADELPHIA – Temple (3-9, 1-7) lost to the Navy Midshipmen (3-8, 3-5) in Philadelphia, 34-14. The Navy rushing attack was too much for the Owls to overcome, as the Midshipmen put up 219 yards on the ground.

How It Happened
First Quarter
Temple won the toss and chose to kickoff. Navy started with the ball in great field position after a free kick out of bounds, but Temple's defense forced a quick three-and-out. The teams traded punts on each of their first two possessions. Navy began its next drive in Temple territory thanks to a great punt return by SB Chance Warren. The Midshipmen were able to punch it in to the endzone after an 11-yard rush by SB Carlinos Acie to make it 7-0.

Second Quarter
On Navy's opening drive of the second quarter, QB Xavier Arline found Warren for a 15-yard touchdown to make it 14-0. After an Adam Barry punt pinned Navy inside the 20, DE Layton Jordan forced a fumble, and SAF Alex Odom recovered it at the Navy 1 yard line. On the ensuing Temple play, senior RB Ra'Von Bonner ran it in to make it 14-7. The teams exchanged punts until Temple muffed a punt inside its own 10-yard line that was recovered by Navy. The short field for Navy resulted in a 32-yard field goal by Bijan Nichols to make it 17-7.

Third Quarter
Temple began the second half with the ball. On the opening drive for Temple, Barry punted 40 yards to the Navy side of the field. A long 11-play drive for Navy was capped off by a touchdown run by FB Isaac Ruoss to make it 24-7. Temple responded with a long drive of its own that lasted 12:05, the Owls' longest drive of the season, and resulted in a rushing touchdown by senior RB Tayvon Ruley to make it 24-14.

Fourth Quarter
On the following Navy drive, Ruoss scored his second touchdown of the game to make it 31-14. On the next Temple drive, the Owls fumbled the ball, and it was recovered by Navy. The Midshipmen scored again to make it 38-14. Temple fumbled again, and Navy recovered to end the game.
