Temple Parts Ways with Head Football Coach Rod Carey

11.29.21 | Football

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University Vice President and Director of Athletics, Arthur Johnson, announced today that head football coach Rod Carey has been relieved of his duties and a national search will begin for his successor.

"It's never an easy decision to replace a head coach," said Johnson. "The past two seasons have not been easy with the challenges of the pandemic. I want to thank Rod for staying committed to our student-athletes and wish him and his family well in their next chapter."

Carey finished with a 12-20 record in three seasons at Temple, including a 3-9 record in 2021.

"I'm thankful to Temple University and the Temple community for my time here," said Carey. "I wish all the student-athletes nothing but success in their lives moving forward. There is a great nucleus of young players here and I'm anxious to watch them play. I will certainly be an Owls fan going forward."

Assistant coach Thad Ward has been named the program's interim head coach.
