PHILADELPHIA – Vice President and Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson announced today that the contract for women's volleyball head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam will not be renewed for the 2022 season.

A national search for the next Temple women's volleyball coach will commence immediately.

"We would like to thank Coach Bake for his service to Temple University and the volleyball program over the last 11 seasons," said Johnson.  "I have learned that he has been a wonderful mentor to his student-athletes during his time here, but we feel we need to move in another direction with the program.  We wish him and his family well in the future."

In his 11 seasons at Temple, Ganesharatnam compiled an overall record of 173-144, including four 20-win campaigns.  The program has struggled of late, posting a 38-67 record (15-47 in AAC play) the last four years including a 7-24 record (3-17 AAC) this season.

"I would like to thank Temple University, the athletic department, and the North Philadelphia community for their support over the last 11 years," said Ganesharatnam.  "I was blessed with meeting great faculty members, administrators, fellow coaches, and most importantly, some amazing student athletes during this journey.  I will be forever grateful to Temple University for giving me my first head coaching opportunity. I am proud of our accomplishments and wish the program all the best. I am looking forward to my next chapter and spending time with my family."

Assistant coach Ren Cefra has been named the program's interim head coach.
