Men's Basketball Alum Gordon Mulava Passes Away

Gordon Mulava, who played on the 1969 NIT Champion Temple Men's Basketball team, passed away October 28 at the age of 74.
"The Temple basketball family lost a great man with the passing of Gordon Mulava," said former Owls' basketball coach Fran Dunphy. "He was a great competitor and the glue to that Temple NIT Championship team. Just a special man who was loved by all. He will be truly missed."
Mr. Mulava, who was high school basketball standout at Woodrow Wilson High, played three seasons at Temple University (1966-67 through 1968-69) where he not only helped the Owls win the 1969 NIT title, but also 61 games during his career.
During his sophomore season (1967-68), Temple won the MAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament finishing with a 20-8 record. As a junior, Mr. Mulava helped the Owls post a 19-9 mark and a berth in the NIT. In 1968-69, Temple lost its conference championship game to Saint Joseph's in overtime but rebounded with four straight wins to finish 22-8 and NIT Champions.
Mr. Mulava is survived by his devoted and cherished wife, Valerie (nee Sandillo) and daughter, Briana. He was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Ruth (nee Newman) and is also survived by his sister, Alexis Mulava and aunt, Lillian Devaull Cohen.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing at EVOY-BANASZ FUNERAL HOME, 129 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, NJ, Wednesday, 6:00-8:00pm and Thursday, 9:30-10:15am. Funeral Service: 10:30a.m. at the funeral home and burial will follow at Locustwood Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ.
