Hicks Sets School Record to Lead Men’s Basketball Past Delaware State, 85-48

PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Zach Hicks exploded for a school-record 10 three-pointers en route to a career-high 35 points in leading Temple to a 85-48 win over Delaware State Wednesday afternoon. The Owls improve to 7-5 overall while the Hornets fall to 2-11.
Hicks broke the three-point record of nine held by Johnny Miller (vs. Cincinnati, 3/16/95) and Rick Brunson (vs. George Washington, 2/26/95). He also tied Assistant to the Head Coach Mark Macon's freshman single-game scoring record of 35 points as well.
Recapping the Game
First Half
> Jahlil White made his first start of the season, and the freshman guard drained his first three of the season to give Temple an early 8-7 lead.
> It would be a tightly contested first half with seven lead changes over the first 10 minutes.
> True freshman Zach Hicks led the way for Temple, scoring 16 first half points – four more than his previous season high. Hicks, who had made just one of his previous 19 threes, was on fire, making six-of-nine from the field and four-of-seven from long range.
> Two three pointers by Hicks and one by Damian Dunn in the final two minutes accounted for a 9-0 Temple run to break open a one-point game and lift the Owls to a 35-25 advantage at the break.
Second Half
> Dunn picked up right where he left off with a three to extend the Temple run to 12 points and the Owls lead to 38-25.
> Two Jeremiah Williams free throws pushed the margin to 14, 44-30, but the Hornets made two quick baskets to cut the deficit to 44-34.
> The Owls answered with a 10-2 run, propelled by two more Hicks threes, to open up a 54-36 advantage.
> Hicks then went on a roll, making four more threes in a 21-0 run to break the game wide open, 73-41, with 7:18 to play.
> Colin Daly's first points as a Temple Owl, a three-pointer with 1:24 remaining, gave TU its largest lead and completed the scoring.
Statistically Speaking
> After shooting five-for-50 from three-point range over its previous two games, the Owls made 14-of-30 from long range (46.7%). The 14 three-pointers are a new season high.
> Hicks was 10-of-16 from long range with Dunn making two-of-five.
> Dunn score 18 points for Temple and tied Williams for team honors in rebounds (7) and matched his career high with five assists.
> Williams tied his career-high with nine assists and had a career high four blocks.
