Volleyball Bounces Back to Top East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. — The Temple volleyball team rebounded with a 3-1 victory on the road at East Carolina, finishing the season series with a split. Temple took the Saturday afternoon match 25-23, 27-25, 16-25, 25-17 to improve to 8-5 overall, 2-4 in conference play. ECU dips to 3-7 overall, 1-7 in the American.
How it Happened
> Temple won two tight sets to go up 2-0, including a furious comeback in the second set that found them trailing 19-11.
> ECU took the third frame to get on the board, before Temple dominated in the fourth set to seal the win.
> The teams were statistically close, but it was the Owls' timely hitting that provided the final margin.
> Temple hit .235 to ECU's .230, and also held a slight 77-74 edge in digs. The Pirates had a 10-9 advantage on the block.
Individual Highlights
> Four players recorded double-doubles for Temple, led by junior Miray Bolukbasi with 19 kills and 13 digs.
> Senior Katerina Papazoglou finished with 17 kills and 11 digs, adding a pair of blocks.
> Junior Gem Grimshaw tallied 15 kills with 16 digs, while tying a career high with five blocks.
> Junior Tyler Lindgren dished out 53 assists and added 16 assists and a pair of blocks.
> Freshman Falanika Danielson led the Owls with 19 digs.
> Sophomore Kayla Spells (five kills, four blocks) and freshman Taylor Davenport (six kills, three blocks) rounded out the box score.
Set One: Temple 25, ECU 23
> Temple won a tight set one with a late surge to go up 1-0.
> The Owls started with a 4-2 edge, before the frame was tied seven times until settling at 12-12.
> East Carolina then rattled off an 8-2 run to take a 20-14 lead.
> Temple would not quit, however, putting together a run of their own, scoring 11 of the next 14 points to end the frame on a Grimshaw kill.
Set Two: Temple 27, ECU 25
> A tight early part of the frame saw the Owls with a slim 11-9 lead.
> ECU took over however, going on a 10-0 run to open up a 19-11 advantage.
> Temple answered with an epic run, coming all the way back to tie the frame at 23-23.
> After fighting off a set point for ECU, the Owls tied things back up at 25-25.
> Temple grabbed the next two points on kills from Bolukbasi to complete the comeback.
Set Three: ECU 25, Temple 16
> Temple got off to a slow start in third set, as ECU scored the first six points of the game.
> The Pirates' lead grew to 9-2, and later 15-6.
> Temple slightly cut into the ECU lead and made a late run, but it was too late as the Pirates got on the board with a 25-16 win.
Set Four:
> Temple hit .286 in the final set to earn the victory.
> The Owls opened up with a 4-2 lead which grew to 12-4 after an 8-2 run.
> East Carolina cut the lead in half at 14-7, but the Owls pushed ahead to go up 20-12 on a Bolukbasi kill.
> The Pirate could only get as close as seven points down the stretch (24-17), as Temple won in on a Grimshaw kill.
