Cayet and Gawronski Claim AAC Weekly Awards for Second Week Straight

IRVING, Texas- After a 0-0 draw against Tulsa Saturday night, defender Pierre Cayet and goalkeeper Eoin Gawronski have been honored by the American Athletic Conference. Cayet has earned AAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Gawronski has been named to the AAC Weekly honor roll for their efforts in the match.

Cayet led a battered Temple backline to their second consecutive shutout. The senior captain was the last starter standing, with Brandon Johnson, Santiago Majewski, and Mickael Borger all out of the match within the first 15 minutes (Johnson did not play due to a red card against SMU). The Frenchman made several excellent challenges to stop quality opportunities for Tulsa. He went the distance, playing the full 110 minutes, and played a huge role in an effort that saw Tulsa only get 27% of their shots on goal, the best percentage the Temple defense has produced this season.

Gawronski has not yet allowed a goal in his collegiate career. The keeper earned his second straight clean sheet with six saves, including two in overtime and is the first keeper to blank the Golden Hurricane this season. Gawronski is also the first Temple keeper to earn back-to-back clean sheets in conference play since 2016.

The Owls will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 20 against UCF for the second match of a three-game road trip. The squads last met on Feb. 13, with the Knights claiming a 1-0 victory. The match is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff and will be streamed on ESPN+.
