No. 19 Memphis Takes Down Women's Soccer, 2-1

3.21.21 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's soccer would be the first conference opponent to net a goal on No. 19 Memphis this season, but the lone goal would not be enough of a comeback as the Tigers picked up the win, 2-1, at Temple Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened
> After four consecutive corner kicks early in the game, Memphis struck first in the 3rd minute with a goal by Haylee Spray.
> Temple answered with a goal of their own in the 7th minute by Gabriela Johnson, assisted by Lexy Endres.
> With the game tied, a strong, aggressive performance by both teams ensued as both looked to extend their lead.
> The difference maker came in the 26th minute as Memphis' Lisa Pechersky picked up the team's second goal of the game.
> Memphis kept the pressure coming with shots from Pechersky, Saorla Miller and Samantha Murphy, but a strong effort from the Owls' back line and goalkeeper Kamryn Stablein held the Tigers' offense going into halftime.
> The second half started slow as the Owls and Tigers continued the evenly matched contest.
> Stablein picked up two huge saves in the 60th and 61st minutes to keep the Tigers lead at one.
> The Tigers relentlessly continued their pursuit for another goal, but Stablein consistently answered with saves again in the 65th and 74th minutes.
> After a yellow card was issued in the 81st minute on Memphis' Grace Stordy, the Owls looked to have their game-tying moment but fell just short on capitalizing.
> Julia Dolan attempted the rebound in the 82nd minute, but her shot would nail the goal post.
> Defender Marissa DiGenova looked to find the equalizer in the 86th minute, but her shot went just high of the net.
> Temple showed no signs of giving up in the last minutes of the game, but without a goal-scoring opportunity, the end of regulation signaled a win for the Tigers.

Up Next
> The Owls' next match will be the final home match of the season. They face city foe Drexel this Wednesday, Mar. 24 at 7 p.m. at Temple Sports Complex.
