McGovern and Stablein Nab Their Second AAC Weekly Awards this Season

3.29.21 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA -- For their strong performances in the Owls' dominant victory over Tulsa, 2-0, freshman Róisín McGovern and junior Kamryn Stablein have received weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference (AAC) as announced on Monday. This marks the second awards for both this season.

McGovern was named AAC Rookie of the Week after another stellar performance this weekend, scoring her second goal of the season off an assist from Gabriela Johnson to give Temple the early lead. Despite Tulsa having 14 shots in the matchup, McGovern and the Owls' back line held the Golden Hurricanes to only four shots on goal and McGovern seemingly had a play or header for nearly every opposing corner kick.

The Ireland native has started in every game this year, proving to be a powerful addition to a defensive line that will see the departure of two seniors at the season's conclusion.

Stablein was named AAC Goalkeeper of the Week, looking unstoppable in goal as she picked up her second shutout as an Owl this season and produced four saves. Stablein has been a powerhouse for the Owls with a stat line of 54 saves across nine games, a save percentage of .818 and an average of six saves per game.

She is currently tied at 28th in the nation for total saves and tied at 27th in the nation for saves per game. Stablein was additionally named Owlsports.com/Nike Athlete of the Month for February.
