Volleyball Takes on UConn on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will host UConn on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in non-conference action in GYM 145 at McGonigle Hall. The match won't be covered on TV, but live stats will be available at temple.statbroadcast.com.

OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
Temple is 6-4 on the season with a 1-3 mark in conference play. The Owls are coming off a non-conference split last weekend, topping Delaware 3-2, but falling to defending CAA Champion, Towson, 3-1. The Owls hit .211 as a team, while opponents hit .204 against them. Individually, junior Miray Bolukbasi leads the Owls' offense with 3.64 kills per set, while classmate Gem Grimshaw averages 3.30. Junior Tyler Lindgren runs the offense, dishing out 9.41 assists per set. Freshman Falanika Danielson averages a conference-best 5.68 digs per frame, while classmate Taylor Davenport leads Temple with 39 total blocks.

SCOUTING UCONN
UConn entered a new era this season, competing in the Big East after seven seasons as a member of the American Athletic Conference. The Huskies are 1-3 on the season, falling to Villanova on the road yesterday, 3-1. UConn and Villanova will play again today at 6:00 p.m.

UConn finished 12-16 overall last season, which included a 6-10 record in the American. The Huskies finished tied for fourth in the AAC East, and did not advance to the first ever American Athletic Conference Tournament. UConn returns junior Caylee Parker, who finished ninth in the conference in kills per set (3.28) last season, as well as junior setter Courtney Morris who finished with 8.32 assists per set a year ago.

TEMPLE VS. UCONN
Temple is 13-7 all-time against UConn, dating back to 1983. The Huskies own the recent edge in the series however, sweeping both matches against the Owls in last year's AAC regular season schedule, but Temple took the earlier meeting this year, 3-1.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Temple 3, UConn 1 (17-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19)
Temple hit .252 in a 3-1 victory over visiting UConn on January 30. The Owls dropped the opening set 25-17, but rebounded to win a close set two, 25-23. Temple needed extra points in the third set to prevail 26-24, before sealing the win with a 25-19 set four victory.

For Temple, Miray Bolukbasi had 23 kills to go along with eight digs, while Gem Grimshaw finished with 12 kills and five digs. Peyton Boyd had 10 kills, hitting a team-best .421, while Tyler Lindgren dished out 43 assists and added five digs. Playing in her first collegiate match, freshman Falanika Danielson finished the day with 25 digs. For UConn, Caylee Parker led the team with 17 kills, adding six digs. Jasmine Davis has 10 kills, while Jennadie Jake-Turner and Alexandria Garland each had seven kills. Gonna Florig led all players with six blocks, while Jake-Turner and Garland had five each.
