Crew Heavyweights Grab Pair of Gold Medals in San Diego
4.10.21 | Men's Crew
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's crew heavyweight and lightweight squads split up this weekend as the heavyweights traveled to San Diego, Calif. while the lightweights stayed home on the Schuylkill River.
The heavyweights made the most of the long trip to the west coast for races against San Diego and UC San Diego on Mission Bay as both the varsity eight and the second varsity eight boats grabbed gold medals.
"It was a great experience to travel west and come out on top against good squads on their home water," head coach Brian Perkins said. "Both of our crews had points to focus on and improve since last week. With only four weeks to go in our regular season, it's very exciting to see these guys continue to get better. Now we rush home and prepare for the Kerr Cup!"
Shortly after, in Philadelphia, the lightweight squads held races against Navy. The lightweight eight were able to claim a second-place finish while the second lightweight eight earned a bronze medal.
