Cohen and Cayet Earn AAC Weekly Awards
4.12.21 | Men's Soccer
IRVING, Texas- After a pair of wins Tuesday and Saturday, midfielder Amir Cohen, and defender Pierre Cayet have been honored by the American Athletic Conference. Cohen has earned AAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Cayet was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts this week. For Cayet, this is his fourth time being honored this year alone.
For Cohen, it is his second time being honored by the conference after being named to the Weekly Honor Roll earlier this year. Cohen played a key role in both Temple victories this week. Against Memphis, the sophomore scored the golden goal in overtime to avenge an early-season loss to the Tigers. On Saturday against SMU, the midfielder knocked home a perfectly hit PK goal that found its mark despite the keeper guessing correctly. In overtime, Cohen nabbed the assist on Mike Eijgendaal's game-winner.
Cayet leads Temple with four weekly awards this season. The senior captain notched an assist from his defensive spot against Memphis and made several spectacular plays on the defensive end against the Mustangs. Highlights include Cayet single-handedly stopping a two-man fast break when fellow defender Mickael Borger went down with an injury, and the Frenchman recovered a miss-hit ball from one of his teammates that could've easily been a goal had SMU arrived first.
Temple will be back in action Thursday at 4 p.m. as they face the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes in the AAC tournament semifinals. The match will take place on the campus of UCF and will be streamed on ESPN+.
