Men's Tennis Wraps Up Season with Four Straight Road Matches

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's tennis takes to the road this week to close out the season with four away matches before the American Athletic Conference Championships.
 
First, the Owls travel to New York to face St. John's on Tuesday, Apr. 13 at 4 p.m., before heading back to Philadelphia to take on Penn on Thursday, Apr. 15 at 2 p.m. The men then travel to sunny Boca Raton, Fla. to play Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in back-to-back action on Sunday, Apr. 18 at 12 p.m. and Monday, Apr. 19 at 9 a.m.
 
The Owls
> Last time out, the Owls were victorious in back-to-back matches over the weekend. The men first swept Colgate, 7-0, on Saturday before beating Fordham, 6-1, on Sunday.
> Marin Delmas continues to shine as the No. 1 singles with a record of 12-1, while the team of Delmas and Juan Araoz lead in doubles play.
 
Scouting St. John's
> St. John's currently boats an 11-1 record this season, with nine victories being complete sweeps. Their only loss came at the hands of Monmouth, 3-4.
> The men's program is led by Dillon Pottish, who is in his third season as head coach.
> Djuro Opacic leads the team in singles competition with a record of 13-0, dating back to last spring before the 2019-20 season was canceled.
 
Scouting Penn
> Thursday's meeting between the Owls and Quakers will be the second time the teams have met this season, with Temple picking up the victory, 5-2.
> In that matchup, the Quakers won the doubles point with wins in the first and second flights. Their second point came at the hands of Zach Smith, who went on to win his singles match over Temple's Eric Biscoveanu.
> The Quakers take on the St. Joseph's Hawks on Wednesday, Apr. 14 prior to facing Temple.
 
Scouting FAU
> The FAU Owls are led by Ricardo Gonzalez who enters his eight season as head coach of the men's tennis program. He was named head coach in August 2013 after being a volunteer coach prior.
> The Owls currently sit at 6-9 for the 2020-21 season after going 5-11 last year before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
> Kevin Huempfner leads the team in singles competition with a record of 8-7.
> In doubles competition, the teams of Maxime Lapraille/Filip Krolo and Alvaro Fernandez Horta/Huempfner are both tied at 5-7 this season.
