Women's Tennis Begins Season Wrap Up this Week

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's tennis faces three separate opponents this upcoming week before wrapping up the season in Florida and heading to the AAC Championships.
 
The women start the week on the road, first against City 6 rival Penn on Wednesday, Apr. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Hamlin Tennis Center. They'll continue on the road, traveling up to New York to face the Fordham Rams on Friday, Apr. 16 at 2 p.m. The Owls then come back to Philadelphia for their home finale this Saturday, Apr. 17 taking on Bucknell at noon.
 
The Owls
> After their six-match win streak came to an end against Tulsa last week, the Owls rebounded with a strong sweep over La Salle, 7-0.
> Vineetha Mummadi and Oleksandra Doroshenko lead the team in singles action with records of 9-1.
 
Scouting Penn
> The Quakers are led by Sanela Kunovac who is in her 11th season as head coach of the women's tennis program. 
> Penn returns junior Iuliia Bryzgalova who finished the 2019-20 season ranked No. 13 nationally in singles. She also received Ivy League Rookie and Player of the Year honors unanimously during the 2018-19 season.
> Currently, Penn boasts a 1-0 record on the season, having beat Drexel 6-1 last time out. The Quakers will face Villanova on Tuesday, Apr. 13 before taking on Temple the following day.

Scouting Fordham
> Fordham women's tennis is led by head coach Bette-Ann Speliotis Liguori in her 12th season at the helm.
> The team currently sits at 5-2 on the season, having lost to Rhode Island 2-5 last time out.
> Leading in singles competition is Arina Taluyenko who is 6-0. She was named Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Performer of the Week for the week ending Apr. 4.
> In doubles, the team of Eleni Fasoula and Nicole Li are 4-1 and on a 2-game win streak. Li is 6-1 overall in doubles this year.

Scouting Bucknell
> The Bisons are led by Tammy Cecchini who is in her second season as head coach for Bucknell. In her first season, the team went 6-3 before cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
> For the 2020-21 season, Bucknell's current record stands at 3-2, beating Loyola 6-1 last time out. 
> Cayla Koch leads in singles play for the Bisons with a record standing at 5-0.
> The team of Kate Novak and Laurel Utterback lead in doubles with a record of 2-0.
