Hoffman Ties Single-Game Assist Record as Lacrosse Rips Off Fifth Straight Win, Downing ECU 13-7

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team (9-3, 5-2 AAC) won their fifth straight game Friday afternoon, defeating the East Carolina Pirates 13-7 (3-10, 1-6 AAC). Meghan Hoffman starred with seven assists, tying the school single-game assist which has stood for 40 years.

Recapping the Game
> Temple struck first and struck early. Only 1:15 into the game Abaigael Ryan scored the opening goal. It was the first assist of Hoffman's historic day.
> Things quieted down after that, and it took over eight minutes for the next goal to find the back of the net. ECU broke the 1-0 stalemate with 20:13 left in the first half.
> The teams traded scores, with Ryan adding her second and ECU striking back quickly (2-2).
>The Owls caught fire with three straight Bridget Whitaker goals to extend the lead to three.
>The onslaught continued with three more Temple goals to end the half. Julie Schickling scored twice while Mackenzie Roth added her first of the day to give Temple an 8-2 lead at halftime.
> Belle Mastropietro opened up the second half with her 22nd goal of the year to put the Owls up by seven. This proceeded another eight-minute-long scoring drought.
> ECU scored to rev things back up (21:50) and Temple countered with two more goals in quick succession, both assisted by Hoffman.
> The Pirates put two more on the board before Roth put her third ball in the back of the net to put the Owl lead at seven again (12-5)
>ECU attempted to rally with a late score before Whitaker put any notion of a comeback to bed with Temple's 13th goal of the day. The Pirates scored once more to yield a 13-7 result.
