Four Owls Claim AAC Weekly Awards
4.19.21 | Women's Lacrosse
IRVING, Texas- After going 4-0 in the last two weeks, four Temple lacrosse players have claimed AAC Weekly Awards. The last four matches were considered for this week's awards due to under fifty percent of teams being in action last week. Defender Courtney Taylor, defender Katie Shallow, attacker Meghan Hoffman, and midfielder Bridget Whitaker have been honored by the American Athletic Conference. Taylor has earned AAC Defensive Player of the Week, Shallow garnered AAC Freshman Player of the Week, while Hoffman and Whitaker have been named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts in the victories.
For Taylor, the accolades continue for one of the elite defenders in college lacrosse. She continues to be the best defender in the AAC by nearly every defensive metric. The senior picked up a staggering 18 ground balls in the last four games. Taylor has caused nine turnovers, highlighted by her five Friday against ECU. She has also added draw controls to her stat line as of late, she won five, three, four, and six in the last four games. Taylor leads the nation in ground balls per game (4.23) and is seventh in caused turnovers per game (2.38).

Shallow has continued her emergence onto the scene this season. The freshman has started every game this season She set new career-highs in ground balls (six) and caused turnovers (four) at Cincinnati Sunday. Against ECU she played well in both matches, with four ground balls and three caused turnovers total.
Hoffman has proved to be an outright elite passer these last two weeks. The 5th year attacker had seven assists in the two combined matches against Cincinnati last week, in addition to five goals. Friday against the visiting ECU Hoffman was simply historic, although she didn't score, she dished out seven assists, tying a 40-year-old program record. Sunday against the Pirates she scored once and added another assist. Hoffman is just one assist away from tying the single-season program record.
Whitaker started the season rather quiet but has exploded as of recent. She now has scored four straight hat-tricks and leads the team in goals.
