Football Hires Former Owl Chris Smith to Operations Department
4.20.21 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football head coach Rod Carey announced today that Chris Smith was hired as assistant director of player personnel.
This marks a return for Smith to the Owls. He was a student-athlete on the football team from 2013-17. Since graduation he held a job with FedEx and spent the 2019 as an intern working in football operations for Rhode Island.
"First and foremost, Chris is an excellent young man who will help our operations efforts in many ways," said Carey. "It's always great to see that young men have success upon graduation and especially nice when they can return to the program and make an impact."
"I am excited for the return to my alma mater," said Smith. "I would like to thank Coach Carey and the Temple staff for this opportunity. I am looking forward to being a part of the Temple family again!"
Smith originally joined the Owls as a walk-on linebacker in 2013 under then head coach Matt Rhule. He played in 16 career games and tallied six tackles over five seasons. His best year was 2016, the year that Temple won the American Athletic Conference Championship, when he played 11 games and was a cornerstone of the special teams' units.
The North Plainfield, N.J., native was a two-time AAC All-Academic honoree earning a bachelor's degree in business management.
