Pierre Cayet Named First Team All-Region

5.12.21 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – After a spectacular season anchoring the Temple men's soccer backline, senior captain Pierre Cayet has been named to the 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-East Region First-Team, as announced on Tuesday afternoon. This is the Brettes-les-pins, France native's second time winning the award after being named Third-Team All-Region last season. He is the sixth student-athlete in program history to receive the honor and only the second to be named First-Team.

Cayet led the Owls on defense this season. He was consistently given the toughest opposing team assignments and made key plays to limit opposing team scoring opportunities. The senior led several outstanding defensive efforts over the course of the year, including blanking No. 2 SMU's top-ranked offense in the nation. The Mustangs were scoring over four goals a game coming into the March 6 match, but they were not able to score against the staunch Temple defense. Cayet also led an absolutely battered Temple backline to shut out Tulsa after 110 minutes of play. He was awarded American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for both performances and was named to the Weekly Honor Roll twice as well.

Offensively, Cayet finished with a penalty kick goal that was scored against SMU and an assist he collected in Temple's win at Memphis. Cayet was voted Preseason American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and proved he earned the honor with ease. The senior was named unanimous conference Defensive Player of the Year, the first time an Owl has won the award. He was also named the AAC All-Tournament Team, his second time being named to the team.

Cayet signed a professional contract with the New England Revolution II of USL 2 soon after the season ended.
